Puppy Health Care

To help ensure the health and well being of your new puppy, McClung's Animal Hospital
recommends this series of vaccinations.

Vaccinations

1st visit Wellness exam, first canine temporary distemper complex, deworm
2nd visit Second canine temporary distemper complex, deworm
3rd visit Third canine distemper complex, bring small fecal sample
4th visit Last canine distemper complex, 1 yr. rabies, heartworm & flea preventative

Dogs receive vaccinations annually, MAH will send vaccination reminders when due.

Kennel Cough (Bordetella)

McClung's Animal Hospital recommends kennel cough vaccinations if your dog visits boarding
kennels, is in dog shows, or is attending obedience classes. This consists of intranasal vaccination that can be given prior to boarding or the event. This is boostered annually.

Heartworm Checks and Preventative

Dogs must have an annual blood test for heartworms before starting on preventative medication. Exceptions are puppies less than 4 months old.

Spaying or Castrating Puppies

At the third vaccination your puppy is protected enough to be spayed/castrated. Surgeries are done by appointment Monday thru Thursday and should be brought in between 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. The puppy will stay with us overnight. We require that you call before picking up the puppy the day after surgery to make sure it is ready to go home. Females return in 7-10 days after surgery to get stitches removed. Please do not feed your animal the morning you are bringing it in for surgery. Only a small amount of food and water should be given to the puppy the day he/she is taken home.

Puppies must have vaccinations before being spayed/castrated.
Puppies in the clinic with a flea problem will be treated.

Flea Control

McClung's Animal Hospital veterinarians and staff will advise you with proper flea control for your dog and environment.
